Film submissions for Pumelo 2009 were closed with over 280 films from 35 countries. Submissions are open for Pumelo International Film Festival 2011.
We are ranked in the top 5 for "international film festivals in Asia" & "film festivals in Mumbai" by Google. Pumelo Fest maintains a high standard of screened films, jury quality, festival atmosphere, screening only independent films, etc. The biggest strength of Pumelo is that we screen mainly films produced in the last few years and not older films. Last year we screened over 60 films from 20 countries. A true delight for any world cinema lover in Bombay or Mumbai.

Pumelo Film Festival in Mumbai is amongst the best ranked film festivals in India and Asia. SDC organise the non-profit festivals in Mumbai each year showcasing independent films from all over the world. The films selected are suitable for all audiences above 18 years of age and passes are issued to the public at nominal costs on first-come-first-served basis.
Pumelo International Film Festival is supported by the consulates, film makers & film centers of the countries from which films are selected for the film festivals. Pumelo requires your support to ensure that students and the interested audiences in Mumbai can benefit from such non-profit festivals. IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT PUMELO 2011 - Pumelo 2011 will be a low key affair with a small budget and limited films being screened. Hence, all the films we select may not be showcased on the screen during Pumelo 2011. We are screening only certain selected films during the 2 day film festival in our 25 seater classroom at SDC. This decision has been taken after the management of Pumelo decided that it was extremely difficult to fund this year's festival with the limited funds and resources available. Therefore, we have decided to screen limited films this year with a limited seating as well. Passes go on sale online this month. You will be updated on the festival schedule 1 month in advance on this very page.
Pumelo International Film Festival is on 26th & 27th January 2011 in Mumbai, India. Pumelo has a competition for best film based on audience choice & awards prizes for best director, best cinematography, best music, best short, best script, best actor, best actress, etc. The films screened at Pumelo International Film Festivals in Mumbai, Asia are selected by a jury comprising of Savio DSilva. All prize winners are issued a Pumelo Certificate which is now starting to be recognised world over as a recognition of a good film.
Pumelo is a Non-Profit festival funded by SDC. Pumelo is growing and requires all the support from the best indie film makers in the world with their feature films & mentions on their profiles, websites & DVD covers. Yensa International Short Film Festival(YSFF) is part of the Pumelo Film Festival in Mumbai. We are now accepting film entries for Yensa. Short films must be quality films less than 20 minutes in duration to qualify for screenings at our international short film festivals. The best 3 short films get certificates. There are also awards for best script, best actor, best actress, best director, best idea, best editing, best music, best cinematography, audience choice, best animation film, best entertainment value, best production value, jury choice, etc. We have already recieved dozens of quality short films and will be selecting over 50 quality short films during Yensa 2011.
Enoma International Film Festival(EIFF) for feature films is part of the Pumelo Film Festival in Mumbai. We are now accepting entries for the same. Feature films must be films more than 30 minutes in duration to qualify for screenings at Enoma International Film Festival. The best feature films get certificates for the category of films they have won in. We also award prizes for best director, best cinematography, best music score, best short, best script, best actor, best actress, etc. Workshops & conferences with film makers makes this festival a truly fun-filled international event.
We would like to thank the top international film directors who have sent us their films for screenings at our international film festivals. The first Pumelo Independent Film Festival(PIFF) (now called Pumelo International Film Festival) ended in 2005 after screening few films with a small audience. This year, we have the world's best independent film directors screening their films. Over 70 indie films with an expected audience of hundred film fans makes the Pumelo International Film Festival the fastest growing film festival in Mumbai, Asia.

The film festivals will continue to provide an exposition of the many approaches to cinema from around the world while simultaneously offering practical workshops, seminars and lectures by regional and asian filmmakers in order to stimulate ideas as well as gather the technical skills to execute them here in Bombay or Mumbai.
The festivals will continue its special focus on independent cinema which is so rarely seen in Asia or India. By creating regional programmes and by continuing to create a network of individuals and organizations the festival hopes to become a platform to inspire a film culture in Mumbai and rest of Asia.
Bollywood & Hindi Films continue to dominate the film circuit in Mumbai & many parts of India but the time has come for a great change in awareness & improvement in the mindsets of the movie watchers. The Festival highlights current trends in international film and video production with an emphasis on work that has not yet secured indian distribution.
The Pumelo International Film Festival aims at creating a platform for solidarity and better understanding among the independent short and documentary filmmakers from Asia, Africa and other parts of the globe- irrespective of nationality, creed, colour and gender.
The Pumelo International Film Festival welcomes films of artistic value, creative expression and social committment upholding peace, cultural harmony, sustainable ecology and rights of women.
In order to broaden the nature and scope of the Pumelo International Film Festival, the word 'Independent' was added to its title, because the true spirit of short films or creative cinema in general lies in their independence from the establishment of commercial film production and distribution. Due to the increasing global popularity of Pumelo we have changed the name of the festival in 2007 to the Pumelo International Film Festival.
The Festivals are being organized by a Festival Committee led by eminent personality Savio DSilva (Chairman). Leading personalities from the film, TV & alternative media industry in Mumbai will be supporting the Pumelo film festival each year.
