We had a flood occur in the basement of our recently purchased older home. The basement had been finished in a 70's style with dark paneling and a rust colored shag carpet. Since we were planning on gutting the basement anyway, we decided that now was the time considering everything was soaked and beginning to mildew.Once the job had been completed, it was business as usual. We did our laundry in the basement and both my husband and I share this particular duty. I was however, the first to start a load after the clean up from the flood. I can remember every detail of the experience even though it was 12 years ago. I was reaching into the basket of dirty laundry to grab a few articles of clothing from the basket before lifting it into the washer. Sudddenly I felt a heart racing panick take over and I had to fight the urge to run back upstair. I keep looking over my shoulder because it felt as if someone was standing behind me quietly watching.
Of course no one was there. The presence was so strong that I began to stand sideways at the washer and dryer to keep one eye on the spot were I felt the "presence" was standing. Before I continue I want you to know that I fully believed I was being ridicules and there was nothing really in the basement. So I had never mentioned this silliness to by husband. Then one day at dinner my husband said he had this awful feeling someone was standing behind him while he was doing laundry. I became very upset and swore I would not go back into the basement. My husband who was also a little rattled got a minister from a local churh to bless our house. After the blessing my husband swore that "it" was gone. It took me a few months and a lot of guilt over the fact that my husband was doing all the laundery to get me back down those stair. He was right it was gone and we haven't had a problem since.
