Seat of Death

submitted by Douglas F. Willow

The scariest thing about this story is that it is true. When I was working as a flight attendant a few years back, I had a layover in Glasgow. I decided to unwind by grabbing a scotch on the rocks at the airport bar. There, I met a man and we ended up talking for about an hour and during that conversation, I found out that he would be on the flight to Toronto that I would be working. He told me his seat number and I told him that I would make sure to come by and say hello.

So once we were in flight I walked by him and we smiled hello. Every time I walked by from then on we would exchange smiles. But then, about halfway through, I noticed he was missing from his seat. I assumed he was in the bathroom. But an hour or so passed and he was still gone. I started to get worried. Finally, after two hours, I went over to the people sitting beside him and asked them if they knew what had happened to the man. They told me that the seat had been empty the entire time.

Now that I think about it, I remember there was something off about him. I just thought he was jetlagged or something at the time, but he did look really pale and old or something, for his age. Then what really freaked me out was I heard the co-captain and captain joking after the flight that they were glad we made it this time "without any casualties". Apparently, some guy on the last flight had died of a stroke right in his seat during the last flight.
