Pumelo International Film Festival 2007 Press Kit
The 2nd Pumelo International Film Festival is from 20th to 22nd March (Tue-Thu) at L.S.Raheja College, Santacruz West, Mumbai. The festival has secured permission of 40 top film directors from 20 countries to screen their films. The films have been screened at over 300 film festivals which states a lot about the incredible quality and variety being displayed at Pumelo 2007.
Pumelo 2007 has a Special Focus on Independent Film Makers from USA says festival chairman Savio DSilva. Another highlight is that all films being screened at Pumelo 2007 are produced in this century compared to old films being screened at most other film festivals in Asia.
Pumelo 2007 gives awards for best feature film, best short film, best director, best actor, best actress, best music, etc. These awards are selected by the jury and audience collectively during the film festival.
The opening film is "Dammi il la" by Italian director Matteo Servente who has won 20 international awards. The opening short film is “Karma Café” by American director Eben Kostbar which has been screened at 30 film festivals worldwide says Chief Organiser Savio DSilva.
Pumelo 2007 supports Al Gore’s Message for a Greener Earth and will air public service messages during the festival in support of the fight against increasing Global Warming.
The closing film is "The Gutter Diaries" by Canadian director Josh Whitall which won best film award at the NY Film Festival in 2006. The closing short films are multi-award winning "November Guest" by American director Danny Daneau & “Chora” by Italian director Lorenzo Adorisio.
Pumelo 2007 has received best wishes from Anupam Kher, Arshad Warsi, Mandira Bedi, Charu Sharma, Mahesh Manjrekar, Hiten Tejwani, Mini Mathur, Abhijeet Sawant, Sharad Saxena and other VIPs. Pumelo 2007 is a treat for film fans interested in world cinema & lovers of quality films.

Pumelo 2007 is a Non-Profit festival funded by SDIMS. Passes are distributed for free. However, rights of admission are reserved due to space constraints, security reasons & VIP presence.

The mission of the Pumelo International Film Festival(PIFF) is to present high quality, thought provoking feature, animated, documentary & short films from around the world. The festival screens the finest in contemporary and classic independent cinema from around the world, including features, documentaries, shorts, and animation. We recognize that submitting to Festivals can be a daunting process for filmmakers, so we hope Pumelo will be the easiest festival to submit your films to.

Our film festivals are an assortment of inspirational films, love stories, comedies, serious and fascinating documentaries, independent features, short films, animated films and family films that will delight our community.
The Festivals are committed to involving and helping our community. We plan to work with several local groups that help people with various life difficulties, providing free festival passes for these individuals.
With our staff, our student volunteers, our sponsors and donors we are poised to bring you glorious days of the finest variety of cinema anywhere. Come and interact with our film loving audience and watch some amazing films.
The film festivals will continue to provide an exposition of the many approaches to cinema from around the world while simultaneously offering practical workshops, seminars and lectures by regional and asian filmmakers in order to stimulate ideas as well as gather the technical skills to execute them here in Bombay or Mumbai.
The festivals will continue its special focus on independent cinema which is so rarely seen in Asia or India. By creating regional programmes and by continuing to create a network of individuals and organizations the festival hopes to become a platform to inspire a film culture in Mumbai and rest of Asia.
Bollywood & Hindi Films continue to dominate the film circuit in Mumbai & many parts of India but the time has come for a great change in awareness & improvement in the mindsets of the movie watchers. The youth & many other citizens are demanding a more fruitful cinema watching experience. That's where the Independent Film Festivals we organise comes in.
We have established the goal to inspire experiment and collaborations between different artistic disciplines and the moving image to enhance an active critical/cultural field driven by strong independent ideas.
To be known as filmmakers' festivals, the annual Pumelo International Film Festival (formerly Pumelo Independent Film Festival) offers a high-profile, prestigious and learning environment perfect for celebrating the best in independent and world cinema. The Festival highlights current trends in international film and video production with an emphasis on work that has not yet secured indian distribution.
The Pumelo International Film Festival aims at creating a platform for solidarity and better understanding among the independent short and documentary filmmakers from Asia, Africa and other parts of the globe- irrespective of nationality, creed, colour and gender.
The Pumelo International Film Festival welcomes films of artistic value, creative expression and social committment upholding peace, cultural harmony, sustainable ecology and rights of women.
In order to broaden the nature and scope of the Pumelo International Film Festival, the word 'Independent' was added to its title, because the true spirit of short films or creative cinema in general lies in their independence from the establishment of commercial film production and distribution. Due to the increasing global popularity of Pumelo we have changed the name of the festival in 2007 to the Pumelo International Film Festival.
The Festivals are being organized by a Festival Committee led by eminent personality Savio DSilva (Chairman). Leading personalities from the film, TV & alternative media industry in Mumbai will be attending as VIP delegates during SDIMS festivals & events.
